Rachel is the CEO of Gateway Private Markets, a leading direct secondaries specialist in Asia. Rachel spearheads Gateway Private Markets’ strategic priorities and manages relationships with investors and partners. She has more than 15 years of experience in the financial markets. Prior to Gateway Private Markets, Rachel managed her family’s investment portfolio and worked closely with other Family Offices in Asia, with a specific focus in private markets.
Rachel started her career in Hong Kong within Citigroup’s Global Banking division, where she covered listed and family-owned businesses in Hong Kong and China. Rachel holds a Bachelor of Finance from the University of Calgary. Together with her husband and two sons she spends most of her time in Hong Kong and has a base in Monaco.

Head of Sales & Partnerships
Franck is the Head of Sales & Partnerships at Gateway PM, based in HK. He spent 19 years in the financial markets and has developed client businesses in Asia for the past 9 years. He held Director positions in global investment banks like Barclays Capital, Societe Generale, Commerzbank and Mitsubishi UFJ. In his last position at Commerzbank in HK, Franck was looking after institutional clients and family offices. He studied Finance in leading business school in France and in Canada.
Franck has two young children with whom he likes to enjoy the many outdoor activities Hong Kong has to offer.

COO & Head of Origination
Mekail is responsible for developing Gateway’s platform and product offering as well as its strategic partnerships. He began his banking career in 2001 with Citigroup in London. He then qualified as a barrister and worked with Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton before returning to Citigroup to structure derivative products. In 2010 he joined Standard Chartered Bank in Hong Kong and helped build their Equity and Fund Derivatives businesses.
Mekail has been involved in a full spectrum of derivatives and capital markets transactions embracing a wide variety of asset classes, pay-offs and jurisdictions. He has a BSc in Physics from King’s College London, and subsequently read law and was called to the English Bar by the Middle Temple in 2005. Mekail has been resident in Hong Kong since 2007. His sporting interests include squash, hockey and boxing.

Tom Lai

Tom’s focus is on developing Gateway’s technology engine and ensuring our solutions utilise the latest available and proven tools. Tom is a full stack developer, self-taught machine learning engineer and an active Kaggler. Tom has extensive experience in building AI-based E-commerce platforms and automatic dialogue agents that utilise Natural Language Processing and Deep Learning technologies.
Tom began his career with Lloyds Bank where he was responsible for internal system development and enhancement. He has a BSc from the University of Stirling, where he read Computer Science and Economics. Away from work Tom spends time with his family and enjoys playing basketball and snooker.
